Red Dead Redemption Review
Alt. Ep. Title: “John Marston+Invisible Bears = Ultimate Posse Fest!”
Rockstar’s long-awaited open world take on the lawless free-for-all that was the wickedly-savage wild west is finally here! While we may not be ridiculously head over heels in love with the game the way that the rest of gaming community seems to be we certainly had a rootin’-tootin good time with both its single player and multi-player components.
Other than Call of Juarez: BIB, the original Red Dead Revolver, and possibly Lucasarts’ Outlaws there really haven’t been any western video games worth playing. So it’s no surprise that Rockstar’s own attempt gets to wear the spit-shined crown since there wasn’t a whole lot of competition to begin with. Going the sandbox route, populating it with colorful/memorable characters, filling it with a variety of gameplay mechanics & mini-games, not to mention painstaking attention to detail, as well as incorporating a very mature and cinematic storyline. All this adds up to a fairly singular experience that mostly gets it right. Unfortunately, some of the more outlandish/annoying characters tend to over stay their welcome whereas the more interesting ones only get a minimal amount of screen time. The repetitive nature of the mission structures and the lackluster gun-play also tend to wear thin rather quickly. All these complaints aside, RDR is highly recommended to all fans of open world gaming as well as western junkies alike!
The era(ror) of the cowboy is coming to an end and The Hard Cast is looking for some rough and tumble vigilantes to help tame the western frontier tight posse style. Vagrant rapscallion charlatans and jackasses need not apply also don’t forget that there is no honor among thieves unless you’re Sly Cooper!

The Stepfather 1 & 2 Review (Father’s Day Special)
Alt. Ep. Title: “Birdhouse+Expendable Family = American Dream!” Just in time for Father’s Day we have a very special two-part discussion of the 80′s cult classic The Stepfather and it’s somewhat entertaining but highly inferior sequel. Apologies for the rushed nature of the episode but we do hope you manage to gleam some minor enjoyment [...]
Undisputed III: Redemption Review
Alt. Ep. Title: “Boyka vs Dolor = The Most Complete Cockfight!” Back in 2006 Undisputed II: Last Man Standing came out of nowhere, surprising a lot of martial arts fans and introduced many to the awesomeness that is Scott Adkins. Four years and one knee injury later Uri Boyka is back and this time he’s [...]
Exiled (Fong Juk) Review
Alt. Ep. Title: “Johnnie Camel-To = Brutal Bro-Mance!” Johnnie To has got to be one of the more consistently solid Hong Kong directors still working. To has a great deal of really entertaining films under his belt but Exiled has definitely got to be one of his more memorable movies to date. The strange back [...]
Dragonslayer Review
Alt. Ep. Title: “It’s All About The Dracorum Sagoblabla…” A joint venture from Disney and Paramount to create a more adult fantasy epic. A bit of a financial failure that later became an 80′s cult classic once it hit VHS. Harkening back to the days when fantasy movies took themselves more seriously (Dark Crystal, Willow, [...]
Escaflowne Review
Alt. Ep. Title: “Butt Pirates, Camel Toes, and Vibrating Catgirls!” Another attempt to bulk up the Anime Otaku section. A movie that I remember enjoying back in 2003 that I felt like revisiting on Blu-Ray in all its HD glory. Unfortunately, my tolerance for overly dramatic Japanese style angst (often present in JRPGs as well) [...]
The Last Starfighter Review
Alt. Ep. Title: “Weezing Navigators=Interstellar Entertainment!” Yet another trip to fun-filled nostalgia island with sci-fi 80′s classic The Last Starfighter! One of the forefathers of early CGI in movies and boy does it show. Luckily for us, it also happens to contain a rather large heaping dose of fantasy fulfillment especially for the arcade gamers [...]
Ip Man Review
Alt. Episode Title: “Wing Chun Causes Non-Stop Vibration!” The Yen-meister is yet again the subject of another episode. This time it’s all about the truly awesome Wilson Yip directed film known as Ip Man. A semi-biographical martial arts film based on the life of a grandmaster of wing chun in the town of Foshan during [...]
